Twenty three of the anglers who qualified for this years Grand Final on the Calder & Hebble canal, turned out last Sunday to brave windy conditions, and blustery spells of rain. A lot of rainfall in the days leading up to the match had disrupted the canal but people had still been catching midweek. The fancied pegs around the bridge were always going to be good draws.
Mike Sharpe drew the plumb one right on the doorstep of the pub. He caught on breadpunch over a bed of joker at eight metres, a catch mainly consisting of Roach with the odd Perch taken on worm later on. His final weight came to 9lb 9oz, enough to win the match and take the top prize of £105.
Second off another good draw was junior Luke Wzrosek from peg 110f right at the side of the bridge who caught both Roach and Perch on bloodworm and joker at eight metres for a total weight of 8lb 10oz.
Third from end peg of the match was Mick Chapman off 106 who caught a lot of small Roach and odd Perch with a bonus Chub of around one and a half pounds for 7lb 7oz.
