Thirty eight anglers turned out for the final club match of the season held on the Calder & Hebble canal at Horbury hoping to land some cash and stake a claim for one of the better prizes off the gift table. Good catches of Roach had been taken in the days leading up to the match but two days solid rain just before sent them into hiding and for the first hour everyone was wondering if they would even get a bite.
First to latch into a good fish was Mick Haigh who put the net under a Bream of around two pounds and quickly followed this up with two more of a similar stamp off peg 117. Bob Brown saw what was happening off peg 115 so went out onto his long chopped worm line and caught a Bream almost immediately on small pieces of worm. Geoff Askey then followed suit off peg 113 with the same response which then ensued a peg to peg battle for victory. In the end it was Geoff who came out on top with one more fish for a winning weight of 19lb. Top junior on the day was Sam Redfern who caught three Bream for an impresive 6lb 4oz from peg 112
