Match held on Sun 31st Jan 2010 at Calder & Hebble Canal Horbury Bridge
The continued cold weather did not deter the group of hardy anglers who descended on the Calder and Hebble canal at Horbury for another open sweepstake.
Roach in the canal had been feeding well during the week with double figure bags being landed.
Following the previous weeks catches on blood worm, most competitors had made sure they had some, but the bait proved a let down for most with only Bob Brown taking a reasonable catch. Bread punch anglers were hoping for revenge after the previous weeks battering but they also fell victim to a first class demonstration of Caster fishing by Waltons David Scales. who made good use of the knowledge gained on the same peg the previous week. Scales who fed the far line with casters at 14 metres had a slow start but the pace picked up as the day progressed
On the next peg Mick Sharpe stayed on the punch and took 1lb Chub first cast and slowly added Roach around the 2oz mark to his catch . Brown caught small Roach and Perch at regular intervals but was short of a bonus fish to trouble the leaders.
