Harry Lodge reports on the latest canal match
Twenty anglers fished the latest sweepstake on the Horbury Canal last weekend Sun 7th Feb 09,and with the weather turning a little milder the Roach duly obliged with the average catch over 5lbs.
Most anglers opted for the punched bread attack with the hot pegs behind the Bingley Arms producing fish for Donald Pierson and Mick Sharp who both bagged around 3lbs in the first hour. At the far end of the section Ian Dawson and David Scales were both taking fish at regular intervals on punch and bloodworm but a change to caster for Scales resulted in several good Roach around the half pound mark and a bonus Perch of one and a half pounds .
At peg 110 b Andy Gower from Saltaire on his first visit to the venue had been taking fish steadily during the first part of the match but his catch rate increased as the match progressed with good Roach on punch to go 2lbs clear of the field.
