15 July 2009
Gary Hampshire reports on the Club Match fished on 28 June, 2009, held on the Calder & Hebble Canal above the Bingley Arms at Horbury.
Only 14 anglers braved the scorching sun to fish the latest club match held on the Horbury Canal at the Bingly Arms section. Conditions were very poor with scorching sun and no breeze to aid movement of the float to entice bites. Top junior Luke Wrzosec led the way off peg 125 with a mega 2lb. 2oz., all small Roach with the odd Perch taken on pole with white pinkie and squatt baits. For some strange reason all the other anglers on the bank could only catch the odd Perch with no signs of a Roach. Second on the day was match secretary Gary Hampshire off peg 112 with 1lb. 10oz. This consisted of 21 Perch taken on squatt and mainly small pieces of worm fished at 13 meters over chopped worm. Third on the day was veteran Brian Hampshire who opted to fish close in behind his keep-net and caught 12 Perch on red maggot and pinkie for a weight of 1lb. The next match is at Newmillerdam on the 12 July where big weights will be expected.
