Gary Hampshire brings to you the match result for 12 July, 2009 at Newmillerdam
The Dam match at the weekend attracted 34 anglers, all hoping to latch into the shoals of Bream and Roach which the lake is known for. The fish are wide spread now and the match can be won from anywhere. Draw bag Andy Beech drew fancied peg 13 which has only been cut back and re-opened for the first time this season, catching Bream, Skimmer Bream and Roach throughout the day for best weight to date of 33lb. 5oz. All fish were taken on pole tactics at 13 metres on caster baits. Second with 23lb. 1oz. was Ray Reah of end peg 37, who fished feeder all day, taking Skimmer Bream and Bream on red maggot and home bread gozzers. Third with 20lb. 12oz. was Jason Orwin off peg three who opted to fish pole at 14 metres taking mainly Perch with an odd Skimmer Bream on chopped worm and caster baits. The main surprise of the day was Jason's dad, Keith, who from peg 21, hooked something that went crazy before snapping his line on the pole. Twenty minutes later he hooked something again that fought very similar bottoming his five elastic. Thinking it was a pike he just lifted it from the bottom and got the shock of his life when a two and a half foot long Eel slid over his landing net. It weighed 2lb. 7oz. and helped him win his section.
