Gary Hampshire (Team Captain) reports on the team's performance on the 3rd Division National.
Saturday, 25 July, saw Wakefield A.C. seniors, field a team in the Division 3 National
Championships held on the New Junction Canal in the Doncaster area.
Twenty-three teams took part with some local sides being the favourites with Wakefield having a very good side of their own. The canal fished very hard on the day and unfortunately two low scores in the section cost Wakefield a bronze medal on the day. Three local sides pushed Wakefield into fourth on the day by a slim margin of ten points, although promotion was guaranteed into the Second Division next year (this was the only consolation).
The team after a long absence in the Nationals, said they really enjoyed the buzz and all those involved have already committed to being part of next year's squad, providing backing and funds will given as this year.
Match Secretary and Team Manager Gary Hampshire would like to say a big thank-you to Wakefield A.C. for all their help, and with sponsorship and backing. Also, a big thank you to Marcus and Gordon from Outwood Angling Centre (Tackle-2-u.co.uk) for the supply of T-shirts and top quality bait and advice, and finally to Mick Lodge from Ossett for his hints and tips and a bit of a laugh.
Cheers to all.
