This canal is one of the oldest waters held by the club, but over the years the area has suffered from land slips, and part has had to be filled in to protect the hillside from slipping.
The water supply from Cold Heindley has dried up, this now makes for low water levels and is heavily weeded.
The Barnsley Canal Restoration Society have been working on a long term project to re - open this canal, which has a village built over part of the original course.
In very dry periods this canal has very little water in it, mainly the Haw Park length holds what water there is.
Parking for this venue is non existant now, as the original parking areas have been blocked off by the highways dept.
We have produced this information as a guide to this water, and the club still retains the fishing rights for future years if and when the canal returns to its former glory
Original information - pre - 2001
This land-locked length of the former Hull & Barnsley Canal is really a narrow still water, weedy and secluded, ideal for the angler who wants to get away from it all. There are very good Tench and Roach, with the occasional small jack Pike to be caught on the float. Open all year round.
